The BCOLP Academy seeks to provide foundational knowledge and insights into the international law of the sea, with a focus on achieving the following objectives:
1. Strengthen participants’ basic understanding of the International Law of the Sea, including core principles, maritime zones, and key areas of ocean governance.
2. Help participants understand the rules for conducting marine scientific research and the rights and responsibilities that apply in different maritime zones.
3. Build capacity to interpret and use international laws on marine environmental protection, focusing on obligations, best practices, and compliance.
4. Introduce the main methods for peacefully settling maritime disputes and explain the legal issues linked to climate change, sea-level rise, and other emerging challenges.
5. Support local and regional cooperation by encouraging discussion on major maritime issues affecting Bangladesh and nearby coastal regions.
6. Provide a platform for Bangladeshi scholars and professionals to engage with global discussions on the rights, interests, and perspectives of developing countries in ocean law and policy.
