Mentor for the Ocean is a flagship educational training service program of the Bangladesh Centre for Ocean Law and Policy (BCOLP), designed to connect emerging scholars and professionals with experienced mentors in the fields of ocean law, policy, and governance. The initiative provides personalized academic and career guidance to university students, early-career researchers, and practitioners interested in ocean-related disciplines. By fostering one-on-one mentorship and small-group learning, the program aims to build capacity, confidence, and leadership skills among the next generation of ocean advocates and policymakers.
Through this program, BCOLP reinforces its commitment to advancing ocean literacy, sustainable governance, and regional collaboration in the Bay of Bengal and beyond. Each mentorship session is supported by a small token donation, which directly contributes to BCOLP’s youth outreach, research, and coastal community initiatives. The inaugural mentors — Dr Abdullah Al Arif (Macquarie University, Australia), Dr Sabrina Hasan (East China University of Political Science and Law, China), and Quazi Omar Foysal (La Trobe University, Australia) — bring global expertise and local insight, ensuring that mentorship translates into real-world impact for our oceans and the communities that depend on them.
